Festina Festuca is a silvery-blue ornamental grass that brings architectural elegance to gardens across hardiness zones 4 through 11. This hardy perennial fescue forms dense, mounding clumps of fine, glaucous blades that mature to 14-18 inches tall, creating striking visual contrast in landscape beds, borders, and containers. Native to diverse climates worldwide, Festina thrives in hot, arid conditions where many other ornamentals struggle, reaching full maturity in 60-69 days from seed.

The luminous silvery-green foliage of Festina Festuca catches light beautifully, making it glow at dawn and dusk. Its compact mounding form requires minimal maintenance once established, and its exceptional cold and heat tolerance means it performs reliably from frigid northern gardens to scorching southwestern landscapes. The fine texture of its delicate blades softens hardscape edges while standing up to neglect that would kill fussier ornamentals.
Festina Festuca excels as a visual anchor in contemporary garden design, particularly for highlighting walkways, borders, fences, and patio edges where its luminous foliage becomes a focal point. Its low maintenance and drought tolerance make it valuable for xeriscaping and low-water landscape schemes, where it serves as a textural element among perennials and structural plantings.

Transplant seedlings outdoors after they reach sufficient size to handle, spacing them 10 inches apart in their final location. Harden off by gradually exposing plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before transplanting. Choose a spot in full sun for best foliage color development.
Festina Festuca's mounding form requires minimal pruning. For established plants, cut back accumulated dead foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges, or allow the attractive dried foliage to stand through winter for architectural interest.
