Hubbard
Golden Hubbard stands out from its classic cousins with a brilliant orange-red skin that brightens any fall harvest. This productive winter squash delivers 3 to 4 substantial fruits per vine in 95-110 days, each packed with vibrantly orange flesh that's notably sweeter and more flavorful than typical Hubbards. The thick, warted skin promises excellent storage potential, while the slightly smaller size compared to other Hubbards makes it surprisingly more productive and manageable for home gardeners.

What sets Golden Hubbard apart is its exceptional productivity paired with superior flavor. The bright orange-red exterior gives way to thick, nutty flesh that's perfectly dry for baking and roasting applications. These vines reliably produce more squash than their larger Hubbard relatives because the fruits are sized just right for practical harvest and storage. The lumpy, warted texture and vibrant coloring make each squash as beautiful as it is delicious.
Golden Hubbard excels in classic winter squash preparations where its thick, nutty flesh truly shines. The dry texture makes it perfect for roasting in chunks or baking whole, while the sweet flavor elevates traditional pies beyond ordinary pumpkin versions. Many gardeners steam or broil serving-size pieces, and the flesh mashes beautifully for side dishes and soups where its vibrant orange color adds visual appeal alongside rich flavor.
Golden Hubbards are ready for harvest when the skin has developed its full orange-red color and the rind feels hard and thick to the touch. The warted texture should be pronounced, and the stem should be dry and woody. Harvest before the first hard frost, cutting the stem with several inches attached to promote better storage. The thick skin will continue to cure and harden after harvest.
