The pollen-less blooms are a game-changer for cut flower arrangements, eliminating the mess and staining that typically comes with sunflowers. Standing up to 7 feet tall with flower heads reaching nearly a foot across, Canyon Sunset commands attention in any garden. The combination of golden petals and deep brown center creates a warm, almost autumnal glow that inspired its name, and the blooms stay fresh in water longer than standard varieties.
Canyon Sunset shines as a cut flower, lasting up to a week in a vase and adding dramatic height and warmth to indoor arrangements. The substantial flower heads and clean pollen-free blooms make it equally at home in a flower garden, where it creates a bold vertical accent and attracts pollinators despite its reduced pollen load.

Direct sow seeds outdoors after the last frost date, when soil has warmed to at least 50°F. Plant seeds at a moderate depth and thin seedlings to the recommended 12-inch spacing once they develop their first true leaves.
Cut flowers when the petals have fully unfurled and the brown center is mature, typically around 60 to 69 days after sowing. Use sharp scissors or a clean knife to cut stems in the early morning for maximum vase life. Submerge the cut stems in cool water immediately after cutting to help them drink deeply and extend their fresh life to a week or beyond.

“Canyon Sunset is a modern F1 hybrid developed to meet the demands of commercial and home cut flower growers. The pollen-less trait was intentionally bred into this variety to solve a persistent problem with traditional sunflowers: the mess and allergenic pollen that stains clothing and overwhelms indoor spaces. This deliberate crossing created a sunflower that performs beautifully in vases without the drawbacks.”
