The vivid carmine-rose color of these gomphrena flowers is genuinely arresting, far more distinctive than the typical purple or pink varieties found in most gardens. What really sets QIS Carmine apart is its dual personality: it excels both as a fresh cut flower when harvested in color but before fully opening, and as a dried flower that holds its vibrant hue for months. The compact, bushy form means you can pack more plants into tight spacing without sacrificing production, making it ideal for serious cut-flower growers.
QIS Carmine Gomphrena shines as a cut flower for fresh arrangements and dried flower work. Harvest blooms while they're in full color but still slightly tight for the longest vase life, or wait until they're completely open to dry them for permanent bouquets and winter arrangements.
Sow seeds into 72-cell flats or preferred seedling containers 6 to 8 weeks before your planned transplant date. Cover seeds lightly with about 1/8 inch of growing media. Maintain cool conditions around 55°F and harden off plants thoroughly before moving them outdoors.
Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Space plants 6 inches apart in full sun. Harden off seedlings gradually over 7 to 10 days before final planting.
Direct seeding is not recommended for QIS Carmine Gomphrena.
For fresh cut flowers, harvest when blooms are in full color but before they're completely open, this extends vase life significantly. For dried flowers, wait until the blooms are completely open, then cut stems and hang them upside down in a warm, dry location out of direct sunlight.
No pruning is necessary for this compact, bushy cultivar. However, regular harvesting of flowers for cut arrangements naturally encourages branching and fuller growth.
