Hardy in zones 6 through 11, this cultivar of Catharanthus roseus reaches just 4 to 6 inches tall but spreads generously, making it equally at home cascading from hanging baskets as it is anchoring garden beds. Flowering begins around 100 to 109 days from seed, rewarding patient gardeners with months of continuous color during hot summers when many other annuals struggle.

Mediterranean XP Vinca was specifically developed for its exceptional trailing habit and dense growth, a trait that makes it shine in hanging baskets and containers in regions where summer heat reigns. Unlike taller vinca varieties, this compact spreader maintains elegant proportions while producing abundant bicolored blooms throughout the season. The trailing character combined with reliable flowering from midsummer onward creates a plant that earns its place in serious container gardeners' rotations year after year.
Mediterranean XP Vinca excels as a summer bedding and container plant, particularly in hanging baskets and mixed containers where its trailing stems can cascade freely. The dense growth habit and prolific flowering make it valuable for creating full, colorful displays in gardens and patios during the hottest months of the year.

Start seeds indoors in warm conditions, maintaining soil temperature between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Sow 8 to 10 weeks before your last spring frost date to allow adequate development before transplanting. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during germination and seedling growth.
Transplant seedlings outdoors after all frost danger has passed and soil has warmed. Space plants 8 inches apart in beds or containers. Harden off seedlings gradually by exposing them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before final planting. For hanging baskets, space plants to allow room for trailing growth.
Mediterranean XP Vinca requires minimal pruning due to its naturally compact, spreading growth habit. Remove any dead or damaged stems as needed. Pinching back young seedlings when 3 to 4 inches tall can encourage even bushier growth and more flower production, though this variety's selected trailing character generally needs no intervention to develop its characteristic form.

The variety was chosen for these specific characteristics, distinguishing it from standard upright vinca cultivars and addressing the practical needs of gardeners in hot-summer climates who demand plants that thrive rather than merely survive intense heat.”
