The Tattoo Papaya Vinca stands out for its distinctive papaya coloring and vigorous flowering habit in full sun. It demands consistent moisture and warmth to perform at its peak, rewarding attentive gardeners with continuous blooms. The flowers are at their most beautiful when cut fresh, making this variety particularly rewarding for those who enjoy bringing vinca blooms into the house.
Tattoo Papaya Vinca excels as a cut flower, with blooms that reach their peak freshness when harvested in the morning as petals are just opening. The flowers work beautifully in fresh arrangements and can be kept vibrant for extended periods with simple care. Beyond the vase, this variety also performs well in containers, garden borders, and anywhere you want reliable, sun-loving color.
Sow seeds indoors and cover lightly. Germination occurs between 70–85°F and within 6–15 days, so maintain warm, consistent conditions. Start seeds early enough to give transplants time to mature before moving outdoors.
Transplant after the last frost date into full sun. Space plants to allow good air circulation, which helps prevent moisture-related issues in high-water conditions.
Harvest flowers in the morning when they are at their freshest and petals are just opening. Cut with a clean knife that has been dipped in a 10% household bleach solution. A few drops of bleach added to the vase water will prolong the flowers' beauty and prevent bacterial growth.
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to maintain a bushy, floriferous habit and encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.
