Robe Series nierembergia earns its reputation for toughness, flowering reliably in cool conditions that stall other ornamentals. The compact, dwarf mounding growth habit makes these plants exceptionally adaptable, thriving equally well in hanging baskets on a sunny patio or as a dense ground cover in cool-season gardens. These hybrids are refreshingly easy to start from seed and demand minimal maintenance once established, rewarding gardeners with continuous blooms across a long season.
Robe Series Nierembergia is grown purely as an ornamental flowering plant. Its compact mounding habit and abundant blooms make it exceptionally well-suited for container gardens, hanging baskets, and patio displays where its elegant flowers can be appreciated from multiple angles. The frost tolerance and cool-season vigor also make it valuable for extending the flowering season in late summer and early autumn gardens.

Start Robe Series nierembergia indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last spring frost. Sow seeds on the soil surface or just barely covered, as light aids germination. Keep soil warm and consistently moist. Seedlings typically emerge within 7 to 14 days and grow quickly.
Harden off seedlings gradually over 7 to 10 days before moving them outdoors. Transplant after your last frost date, spacing plants 9 inches apart in full sun. Soil temperature should be at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit, though these hybrids tolerate cool conditions better than most tender annuals.
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to maintain a tidy mounding shape and encourage continuous bloom production. The naturally compact, dwarf habit requires minimal structural pruning. Pinching back young seedlings when they reach 2 to 3 inches tall will encourage branching and create a fuller, more densely flowering plant.
