Lebanese Zucchini
Magda is an F1 hybrid zucchini that brings the refined, nuanced flavor of a 'Cousa' type squash to the home garden in just 48 days from seed. This bush variety produces fruits with superb eating quality, earning it a place among gardeners who refuse to settle for ordinary summer squash. Plant it 18 inches apart in fertile, well-drained soil, and you'll have tender, flavorful zucchini ready to harvest before midsummer heat peaks.

What sets Magda apart is its 'Cousa' type genetics, a lineage prized for flavor that transcends the typical watery zucchini. Reaching harvest in just 48 days, this F1 hybrid combines early productivity with the complex taste that makes you actually excited to cook with zucchini rather than simply accepting it. The compact bush habit means even small gardens can fit this performer, and its vigor under proper conditions practically guarantees a reliable crop.
Magda excels in any preparation where zucchini's subtle flavor and tender texture matter, sautéed as a simple side dish with olive oil and garlic, grilled to develop sweet caramelization, or sliced thin for raw preparations where its quality shines through. The superior flavor makes it particularly suited to Mediterranean preparations where zucchini is the star rather than a supporting ingredient.
Direct sow seeds into warm soil after all frost danger has passed. Plant seeds directly into the garden where they will grow, as zucchini transplants often establish best when direct sown.
Harvest Magda zucchini at 48 days from seed when fruits are young and tender, typically 6 to 8 inches long. Pick fruits regularly and frequently, continuous harvesting encourages more blooms and extends the productive season. Use a sharp knife to cut fruits cleanly from the vine rather than twisting, which can damage the plant. Check plants every 2 to 3 days during peak season, as zucchini grows quickly and oversized fruits lose the tender quality that makes this variety special.
