Everbearing
Seascape is a day-neutral everbearing strawberry hybrid bred for continuous production from early summer through fall, thriving in zones 4 through 9. Unlike traditional June-bearing strawberries that produce one large flush, Seascape delivers ripe berries from June through October, with plants reaching 8 to 12 inches tall and maturing in 90 to 99 days. The variety is particularly celebrated on the West Coast, where backyard growers prize it for large, firm berries with excellent flavor and proven disease resistance, making it reliable enough to grow in containers or garden beds across a wide range of climates.

Seascape produces an impressive center berry in each cluster that's firm enough for chocolate dipping, with berries appearing non-stop from June into October rather than arriving in a single harvest. The variety requires minimal chill hours to set fruit, so it ripens early and keeps producing through warm weather when other strawberries fade. Plants are compact enough for containers yet productive enough to reward garden beds, and they show solid resistance to anthracnose, leaf scorch, and powdery mildew.
Seascape berries are eaten fresh, refrigerated whole, or dipped in chocolate thanks to their large size and firm texture. The everbearing habit makes them suited to fresh eating throughout the season rather than bulk preserving, allowing gardeners to harvest ripe berries daily for immediate consumption.
Sow seeds indoors approximately 2 months before your last spring frost date. Transplant seedlings into containers and grow them under lights until they are sturdy enough to harden off.
Transplant seedlings or bare root plants outdoors after the last frost date when soil has warmed and is workable. If bare root plants arrive before you are ready to plant, pot them into 4-inch containers and hold them in a sheltered location for a few weeks until the garden soil is prepared.
Direct seed outdoors as soon as soil warms in spring, pressing seeds into moist soil and keeping them consistently moist until germination.
Begin harvesting when berries turn fully red, which typically occurs between 90 and 99 days after planting. Harvest daily once berries start ripening, as fully ripe berries are softer and more flavorful. Pick berries by gently twisting and lifting them from the plant, or use a sharp knife to cut the stem. Note that leaves covering the outer shoulders of the berry may prevent those areas from developing full red color, so check beneath the foliage. Refrigerate harvested fruit immediately on a tray or plate in a single layer.
Pinch off blossoms of everbearing varieties until July 1st of the first year to direct plant energy toward root establishment rather than early fruiting. After this date, allow flowers to develop and fruit to set. Remove runners if you want to maintain the plant's shape and redirect energy into berry production, or allow runners to spread for increased coverage.

“Seascape represents a deliberate breeding effort to create a day-neutral strawberry hybrid, meaning its flowering and fruiting don't depend on day length the way traditional varieties do. This genetic approach allows the variety to produce consistently throughout the season rather than waiting for the long days of early summer. The hybrid was developed with specific attention to coastal and Pacific Northwest growing conditions, where it has become a favorite among home gardeners seeking reliable, extended harvests.”
