Miniature Pumpkin
Hooligan is an F1 hybrid pumpkin that brings novelty and personality to the patch with its distinctive bicolored orange and white mottled skin. These diminutive fruits weigh just a quarter pound at maturity, making them perfect for small-space gardeners and decorative arrangements. Reaching harvest in 90 to 99 days, Hooligan thrives across hardiness zones 3 through 13 and produces excellent yields from vigorous vines that sprawl across the garden, offering the dual benefit of ground cover while the plants work hard to deliver abundant, thumb-sized pumpkins.

What sets Hooligan apart is its combination of eye-catching bicolored appearance and prolific productivity in a tiny package. The vines are robust and sprawling, providing natural ground cover while simultaneously pumping out impressive numbers of quarter-pound fruits with striking orange and white mottling. This is a pumpkin that works as hard visually as it does agronomically, making it equally at home in a decorative display or a production-focused garden.
Hooligan pumpkins serve primarily as ornamental and decorative elements, particularly well-suited to fall displays, table arrangements, and seasonal decorations given their compact size and striking visual appearance. Their quarter-pound weight and manageable vine sprawl make them accessible for small-space gardeners and container or intensive bed cultivation, though the source catalog recommends pairing them with Bumpkin F1 and Gooligan F1 for a visually striking novelty mixture.
Transplant Hooligan outdoors after the last frost date when soil temperatures have warmed to at least 60°F, spacing plants 36 inches apart in a location receiving full sun. Harden off seedlings gradually to outdoor conditions before transplanting to reduce transplant shock.
Direct sow seeds outdoors after the last spring frost when soil has warmed sufficiently, planting in mounds or hills spaced 36 inches apart.
Hooligan pumpkins are ready to harvest 90 to 99 days after planting, when the skin has fully colored and developed its characteristic orange and white mottled appearance. Fruits should feel firm to the touch and resist pressure from a thumbnail. Cut pumpkins from the vine using pruning shears or a sharp knife, leaving 2 to 3 inches of stem attached to promote longevity in storage.

“Hooligan represents modern hybrid breeding aimed at creating novelty pumpkins that deliver both aesthetic appeal and reliable performance. As an F1 hybrid, it was developed by crossing two parent lines to achieve hybrid vigor, the combination of the bicolored markings and the compact fruit size suggests intentional selection for ornamental and small-fruit market appeal. The variety name itself reflects the playful, unexpected nature of the bicolored jack-be-little type pumpkins that emerged as gardeners increasingly sought pumpkins beyond the traditional large orange carving varieties.”
