Music stands out as a hardneck garlic that breaks the mold with its exceptional storage capabilities, maintaining vitality for up to 9 months when most hardnecks fade much sooner. This Italian-born variety has proven itself incredibly hardy, weathering even the most brutal winter conditions across northern regions and much of Canada. Selected specifically for larger cloves, Music produces substantial bulbs with fewer but meatier segments, each delivering that signature robust, pungent flavor that makes it a kitchen favorite.
Music Garlic excels in any culinary application where you want bold, assertive garlic flavor. Its robust and pungent character makes it ideal for dishes that can handle strong garlic presence, from roasted preparations that mellow its intensity to fresh applications where you want that signature bite. The large cloves are particularly prized by cooks who appreciate substantial garlic pieces that are easy to work with in the kitchen.
Plant individual cloves approximately 6 inches apart in rows 24 inches apart, or use 3-4 rows per bed with 6-inch spacing between cloves and rows. Push cloves root-end down about 2-3 inches into the soil, then cover with 3-4 inches of mulch from grass clippings, straw, or leaves. Plant from the first fall frost date until as late as November for best results.
Harvest Music when the top 4-5 leaves remain slightly green while lower leaves have dried, and the tops begin to fall over. Begin checking for mature bulbs in late June for fall-planted garlic, remembering that each green leaf represents one layer of covering over the bulb. Harvest before the leaves are completely dry to ensure proper bulb formation and storage quality.
