Utopia Bacopa delivers dramatic color contrast with its distinctive two-tone petals, available in vivid lavender-blue or pure white. The trailing growth habit makes it naturally suited to hanging baskets and cascading over raised beds, while its compact 6-8 inch mature height means it fits into tight spaces without overwhelming neighboring plants. This annual flowers reliably in full sun across warm hardiness zones, producing continuous blooms throughout summer without the fussiness of high-maintenance varieties.
Utopia Bacopa serves as a premium bedding and trailing plant for summer gardens, window boxes, and hanging baskets. Its elegant bicolor petals add refined color to mixed containers, or it can anchor a display entirely on its own. The trailing form works wonderfully cascading from elevated planters or as a ground-level border plant around the base of taller shrubs and trees, especially in partially shaded locations where it brings brightness without demanding intense afternoon heat.

Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last spring frost date. Bacopa seeds are tiny and should be surface-sown or pressed lightly into seed-starting mix without covering. Keep soil consistently moist and maintain temperatures between 70-75°F for reliable germination. Seedlings will be ready to transplant outdoors once they develop 2-3 true leaves.
Harden off seedlings over 7-10 days by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions. Transplant outdoors after the last frost date when soil has warmed and nighttime temperatures remain above 50°F. Space plants 12 inches apart with 24 inches between rows. Handle seedlings gently as they are delicate at this stage.
Pinch back young seedlings when they reach 2-3 inches tall to encourage bushier, more densely trailing growth. Once established, deadheading spent flowers will extend blooming throughout the season, though Utopia Bacopa typically flowers so prolifically that deadheading is optional. Light trimming of straggly stems keeps the plant looking tidy in containers.
