Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last spring frost. Gazania seeds germinate best at warm soil temperatures around 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and provide bright light once seedlings emerge.
Harden off seedlings gradually over 7 to 10 days before transplanting outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Space plants 8 inches apart in full sun. Soil temperature should be consistently warm, ideally above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Harvest gazania flowers for cutting when blooms are fully open and at peak color. Pick in the early morning for the longest vase life. Flowers can be cut fresh for immediate arrangements or dried by hanging upside down in a warm, dark space for 2 to 3 weeks.
