Sow seeds directly outdoors 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date when soil temperature reaches at least 45°F, with ideal conditions between 60-85°F. Plant successive sowings every 3 weeks until 10 to 12 weeks before your average first fall frost date.
Harvest Red Cored Chantenay carrots at 65-70 days when roots reach 4-6 inches in length. The carrots are ready when shoulders are well-developed and the distinctive red core is fully formed. Gently lift roots from loose soil, being careful not to break the tapered tips. The compact size makes harvesting straightforward, and roots can be pulled individually as needed rather than harvesting all at once.
