Golden Ball Turnip excels in both root cellar storage and fresh kitchen applications. The golden roots can be stored long-term in cool conditions or left in the ground through winter in milder regions, providing essential vitamins and minerals during the cold months. The leafy tops, particularly rich in carotenoids and B-complex vitamins, offer excellent greens for fresh eating when harvested young.
Direct sow seeds from spring through summer for continuous harvests, with July through early September sowings recommended for fall and winter crops that can be stored or left in ground in milder regions.
Harvest roots when they reach desired size, keeping in mind that smaller turnips tend to be sweeter and more tender. Young turnip greens can be picked throughout the growing season for fresh eating. For storage crops, harvest before hard freezes or leave in ground through winter in milder climates where they'll continue to sweeten.
