Botrytis cinerea
Common fungal disease causing gray fuzzy mold on flowers, fruit, and foliage. Particularly problematic in cool, humid conditions.
Gray fuzzy mold on affected tissue. Water-soaked spots on petals and fruit. Stem cankers. Fruit rot. Damping off of seedlings.
Ubiquitous fungus that attacks weak, damaged, or senescent tissue. Spores are always present in the environment.
Wind-dispersed spores. Spreads through contact with infected tissue. Enters through wounds, natural openings, and dead tissue.
Cool temperatures (60-75°F), high humidity (>90%), wet foliage, poor air circulation, wounded or stressed plants.
Good air circulation. Avoid overhead irrigation. Remove dead plant material. Don't wound plants. Harvest fruit promptly. Reduce humidity in greenhouses.
