Bemisia tabaci, Trialeurodes vaporariorum
Tiny white flying insects that suck plant sap and excrete honeydew. Major greenhouse pest that also affects outdoor crops in warm climates.
Tiny (1/16 inch) white moth-like insects. Fly up in clouds when plants are disturbed. Nymphs are flat, oval, and scale-like on leaf undersides.
Yellowed, wilted leaves. Sticky honeydew and black sooty mold. Stunted growth. Leaf drop. Virus transmission.
Multiple overlapping generations. Eggs laid on leaf undersides hatch in 4-12 days. Nymphs go through 4 stages before becoming adults.
Inspect new plants before introducing. Remove heavily infested plants. Avoid over-fertilizing. Use reflective mulches. Screen greenhouse vents.
